Abraham A. Sion is Professor Emeritus at Ariel University in Israel where, for over a decade, he chaired the Center for Law and Mass Media. He earned his expertise in the Arab-Israeli conflict through intensive research, international and local conferences, lectures, articles, think tanks, TV and radio shows for over 30 years. Simultaneously, Prof. Sion practiced Law mainly in Civil and Administrative matters. He also served as Deputy State Attorney for Israel.

To Whom Was The Promised Land Promised? - Some Fundamental Truths About The Arab-Israeli Conflict stands alone in its field. For anyone seeking information or guidance on the Arab-Israeli century-long conflict, this book will be the first book to consult.
The object of Abraham Sion's research is to ascertain ownership of the legal right to the territory of Mandatory Palestine under international law. The two competitors were the Arab nation on the one hand and the Jewish people on the other. The author juxtaposes the legal rights of both parties to make this determination.
In the same vein, the book is not a political dissertation. It does not consider the issue from a political point of view, e.g., whether territories captured during the Six-Day-War should be exchanged for peace or whether a Palestinian State should be established in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
‘Occupied Territories’, ‘The West Bank’, ‘Illegal settlements’, ‘Unlawfully annexed East Jerusalem’. These phrases, rife with insinuation about Israel’s right to the territory of ‘Palestine’, have become commonplace in today’s rhetoric. The media, academia, international bodies of law, activists on college campuses, and even many Jewish communal leaders, have accepted the validity of these terms without question.
In To Whom Was the Promised Land Promised?, Professor Abraham Sion, a seasoned legal scholar, expert on land titles, and media commentator, examines the historical and legal aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict to determine who actually acquired the legal title to this land. In this meticulously-researched volume, Sion pores through the foundational documents of the State and traces the region’s history through the copious treaties and resolutions that shaped the legal and political landscape of the Middle East in the twentieth century.
Sion’s research is highly unique since it comes with an approach – fully based on authentic documents and conducted with the impartiality of a legal expert – that contradicts most, if not all, previous approaches to the conflict. Ultimately, his findings refute the stance taken by mainstream writers today and contradict political and judicial decisions on the subject. Sion’s research is concerned with the legal aspects of the conflict. He does not seek to establish who is morally right or wrong, or who has been the aggressor or the victim among the parties, even though these attributes can be sporadically deduced from the historical facts presented in this work.
To Whom Was the Promised Land Promised? is an essential resource for scholars, students, international lawmakers, activists, community leaders and all those seriously interested in the legal aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
